Does Starbucks come immediately to mind? That fragrant, heavenly perfect cup that the majority of us enjoy first thing in the morning? Today Coffee shops are everywhere (there are 5 Dunkin Donuts in New Milford alone).
To put this in perspective, growing up in Danbury, the next town south, there were no coffee shops, only diners (in the 60’s & 70’s). In field service, we brought our red plaid thermoses of coffee with us.
Now imagine if all the Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts closed down tomorrow. Would we be able to get thru our day at work or for that matter, get to work?
There’s no energy in coffee, but as we know it pumps up the adrenal glands, so we feel more energetic (imagine the need for a boost from the adrenals in an emergency situation, but all day long).
Coffee has plenty of good! Yes, coffee has certain phyto-nutrients that stabilize free radicals! We need that! It helps assimilate VitC and it’s an antioxidant. Coffee also can prevent tumor growth.
So let’s consider the adrenal glands again. Adrenal glands weren’t created to be pumped up on a regular basis. This can lead to adrenal exhaustion and/or rapid heartbeat.
Are we created to work a 60 hr. work week or be a go go go super mom? Much of our society depends on coffee to fill these roles.
Interestingly, in Chinese medicine we are taught that there are channels thru the body. The adrenals are the Kidney Channel which includes the Adrenals, Kidney, Bladder and Reproductive Organs. All these systems can be affected if our bodies aren’t handling the amount of coffee we consume.
So we are all individuals…………in health we have bio-individuality, that is, some can do fine on 5 or 6 cups of coffee a day, others not so well on one cup. Even one cup can effect an individual’s sleep, whether it’s a morning cup of coffee or later in the day. We know ourselves the best.
